Flu Update

Seasonal Flu – We are sorry, but we do not have any seasonal flu vaccine available at this time. We regret any inconvenience this may cause to you or your family. We should receive our next shipment of the vaccine in late October. Until that time, you can consider going to a local pharmacy, urgent care center or the health department to receive your vaccine.
H1N1 – This vaccine has not been released to the public yet. We expect to receive our supply of the vaccine in mid to late October. Updates regarding the availability of this vaccine will be posted on this site as they become available. H1N1 is the predominant strain of flu we are seeing in our community at this time. Fortunately, it has not been a severe illness for most people. The physicians and staff at SLFM have been following the recommendations of the CDC regarding the diagnosis and treatment of this illness.

We have the H1N1 Vaccine

Because we currently have a limited supply, we are giving it to established patients only who fit into the following high risk categories:
-Pregnant Women
-People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
-Healthcare and Emergency medical service personnel
-Anyone 6 months to 24 years of age
-People aged 25-64 who have chronic health conditions or compromised immune system including: asthma, chronic lung disease (COPD, Cystic Fibrosis), Heart Disease (congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease), diabetes, weakened immune system due to disease (cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus).
We are scheduling nurse visits for patients who have been seen within the past year, and the cost is $20 for the administration.
As we get more of the vaccine we will consider giving it to patients who do not fall into these high risk guidelines. We have gotten limited communication about when more vaccine might be available and will update the website when we have more information.
